Weather Eye: High pressure to push rain to north

We enjoyed a couple of nice days after the soaking over the weekend.

Looking at the weather Wednesday afternoon it appeared those drips and drizzle I mentioned would sag southward enough to give us some moisture today and Friday before high pressure pushes the rain north into Canada.

Still any rain we get will not be great with the highest amounts along the coast and to our north. Rainfall in the 1- to 3-inch range is possible north of Seattle. Freezing levels will be high so it will be wet in the Cascades, except at the highest points. More rain at Government Camp and Timberline, too.

Warm high pressure moves northward from California over the weekend and will push freezing levels over 10,000 feet. The warm air will make it down to the lowlands and we will see 55- to 60-degree weather over the weekend and into early next week, except the warmest day looks like Sunday.

The next chance of rain would be later next week. The mild weather has pushed spring bulbs upward and I have had a couple reports of daffodils in bloom. Way too early but not uncommon.

Things were a little dicey in some parts of the county early Wednesday, where freezing fog left moisture on the roadways. Lots of black ice. I dipped to 28 degrees here in Salmon Creek. Vancouver officially reported a low of 28 degrees, as well.

I don’t know what we can do to get some snow in the mountains other than hope and pray plenty of snow falls in the next three months. Fortunately for the Columbia River, the mountains in Canada and the Rockies are faring much better.

Looking back 10 years ago in my writings, I found that on Jan. 15, 2005 we had a high of 33 degrees and just three days later we had a high of 66 degrees. I see that Seattle is forecast to have a record high of 59 degrees on Sunday.

We’ll chat on Sunday. Take good care!
