BELLINGHAM — Whatcom County Executive Jack Louws says it will cost millions of dollars to repair the facade of the County Courthouse in Bellingham because water has been collecting inside the walls.

The Bellingham Herald reports workers conducting recent inspections were able to remove some bricks with their hands. They also found rusted steel supports.

The County Council heard a report Tuesday that found that a renovation 23 years ago did not follow construction drawings for water collection systems.

About half the windows also are leaking and will have to be replaced.
