Letter: Accept ruling and move on

The Columbian
Published: July 6, 2015, 12:00am

In the midst of the legalization of same-sex marriage, I am blown away by the hypocrisy of those who oppose the ruling. They’d like to deny the right to liberty and happiness to U.S. citizens just because it offends their beliefs. That’s like a Muslim trying to take pork eaters to court because it’s offensive to his/her beliefs. A person’s beliefs should have absolutely nothing to do with the law.

You can believe what you wish but that doesn’t mean you can force your beliefs on other people’s freedom. The whole notion that religious freedom is under attack is completely ludicrous and unbelievably laughable. The only aggressors I see here are bigots actively trying to prevent U.S. citizens from their deserved happiness.

Besides, isn’t this all according to God’s plan anyway? He knew this would happen, am I wrong? God works in mysterious ways, so I’m told. And if God doesn’t like it, let him pull some tools from the Old Testament and it’ll get sorted out. Until then, get over yourselves and be decently tolerant people, like Jesus would have wanted.
