Those with a passion for politics will have two opportunities next week to hear from the candidates in local races.

The League of Women Voters of Clark County will host two forums on July 15 and 16.

The July 15 event will feature candidates running for Clark County council chair, Clark County council District 2 and Battle Ground School Board. It starts at 6 p.m. at the Ridgefield Community Center at 210 N. Main Ave., Ridgefield. Clark Public Utilities Commissioner Jane Van Dyke will moderate the debate.

The July 16 forum will again feature candidates from the county council chair race, as well as the Port of Vancouver commissioner race and Vancouver City Council candidates. The forum is 5:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Community Library at 901 C Street, Vancouver. Vancouver City Councilor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, and Clark Public Utilities Commissioner Nancy Barnes will co-moderate the debate.

So far all candidates have indicated they will participate except for Mary Benton, who is running as a Republican for Clark County council District 2, and Kathleen Metzger, who is running for Vancouver City Council, Position No. 5, McEnerny-Ogle said.

The organization will also register people to vote and help people figure out what voting districts they live in, McEnerny-Ogle said.

“The leaders you elect make the decisions that affect you,” she said. “We want people to get out and vote.”
