A search of the Columbia River for a man who drowned near Frenchman’s Bar Park continued into Friday night.

Vancouver Police Sgt. Mike Davis said the man was swimming in the river just south of the park when he began having difficulties and went under. The drowning was reported about 7 p.m.

Rescuers converged on the scene and searched the water but had not been able to locate the victim as of Friday night.

The man’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
