Letter: Choose qualified port candidate

The Columbian

I’m pleased to see the number of candidates running for Port of Vancouver commissioner. At the last election, there was limited opposition for this important position.

Many are looking at this race based on a single issue —the oil terminal. While this is an important issue that will impact our community for years, there are many other issues going forward for the port, including how to redevelop the Inn at the Quay location.

As I studied the candidates, all had good qualifications. What I studied the most was prior business experience; the background they have in making decisions in either managing or owning businesses, working with multimillion dollar budgets and making tough choices. By that standard, my support is for Bob Durgan.
