Community notebook: Local team 16th at CrossFit Games

CrossFit Fort Vancouver placed 16th in the team competition at the ninth edition of the Reebok CrossFit Games, which concluded on Sunday at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

This was the seventh consecutive year that the Vancouver gym has qualified a team for the Games, which included 40 teams from around the world that qualified through regional competitions.

CrossFit Fort Vancouver won the second event of the competition, completing a 6-mile relay run in 35 minutes and 40 seconds. The Vancouver team placed sixth in one event and seventh in two events.

Joining CrossFit Fort Vancouver owner Adam Neiffer on the team were Bryan Weed, Andrea Roozen, Mathew Hornung, Eva Scherer and Kristina Metz. Neiffer, Weed and Roozen were on the team that placed 24th in the 2014 CrossFit Games. CrossFit Fort Vancouver won the team championship at the 2010 CrossFit Games.

Jessica Core of Vancouver placed 34th among the 39 qualifiers in the individual CrossFit Games for women. This was the first season Core has competed individually.

240 complete Lacamas Lake Half Marathon

Aaron Coe of Portland won Sunday’s Lacamas Lake Half Marathon with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 42 seconds. The 32-year-old finished almost eight minutes in front of Mike Grimshaw of Vancouver, who took second place in 1:25:35. Nick Carter, 16, of Camas finished third in 1:25:55.

The women’s champion was Andi Camp of Portland. Camp, 40, finished eighth overall in 1:19:24. Amy Campbell of Vancouver was the first local woman to finish. She was fourth among the 145 women in the race, 16th overall, with a time of 1:40:55.

A total of 240 runners completed the 13.1-mile course, which circles Lacamas Lake with the start-finish line in downtown Camas.

Another 125 runners completed the 3.1-mile Lacamas Lake 5-Kilometer Run. Tallen Wallace, 16, of Camas won the race in 21:18. He finished four seconds ahead of Julia Webb from Beaverton, Ore., and 35 seconds in front of Alyssa Tower of Vancouver.

114 finish Harvest Hay Half Marathon

Christopher Shaeffer of Portland won the Harvest Hay Half Marathon on July 19 in Battle Ground.

The 31-year-old completed the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 3 seconds — almost 12 minutes ahead of the runner-up. Amy Campbell, 33, of Vancouver was the first female finisher. She was seventh overall in 1:37:46.

A total of 114 runners completed the half marathon.

Carre Heineck of Portland won the 8-kilometer run with a time of 28:37. A total of 130 runners completed the 8-kilometer run.

Results for both the Harvest Hay Half Marathon and 8-kilometer races are in the Community Sports Scoreboard. The races raised money for the North County Community Food Bank.

Wednesday summer runs continue

Jesse McChesney of Vancouver finished first in the Round Lake 5-kilometer Trail Run on July 22. He finished the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes and 52 seconds, 35 seconds in front of runner-up Sam Garvin.

Savannah Craig, 16, was the first female to finish. She was sixth overall in 20:59.

A total of 92 runners finished the race, part of the Clark County Running Club series of summer Wednesday runs.

This Wednesday the series shifts to Leverich Park. The 7 p.m. run will loop around the park and include part of the Discovery Trail. Participants should arrive by 6:30 p.m. to register. The run costs $2, free for members of the Clark County Running Club.
