Firefighters are battling a brush fire tonight near the Livingston rock quarry in east Clark County, and nearby residents were warned to prepare for a possible evacuation.

The fire was reported around 9 p.m. at 25500 N.E. Highland Meadows Drive. When crews arrived, they found flames burning in about 2 acres of heavy brush and threatening some power lines, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. Officials knocked on the doors of about 20 homes near the fire, advising residents to prepare for a possible evacuation should the flames come too close, according to radio traffic.

The fire was described as slow-moving, and winds in the area were calm.

The quarry is in a sparsely populated area north of Camas and east of Orchards. At least 36 residents in the area lost power tonight, according to Clark Public Utilities.

More information was not immediately available. As of 10:30 p.m., the fire still was burning about 2 acres.
