WASHOUGAL — Facing drought conditions and sweltering temperatures for the foreseeable future, the city of Washougal is asking residents to cut down their water use.

On Friday, city leaders announced the beginning of an odd/even watering schedule for lawns and landscapes throughout Washougal.

Participation is voluntary, but strongly encouraged.

Under the schedule, watering should be done on odd calendar days for homes with addresses ending in an odd number. And for houses with addresses ending in even numbers, watering should be done on even calendar days.

City leaders also recommend letting lawns grow longer than usual and keeping clippings on the ground to help absorb moisture. Inside the house, they suggest taking shorter showers and cutting down on running water use in the kitchen.
