A Washougal man will face a vehicular assault charge after a high-speed crash on Saint Johns Boulevard in Vancouver on Friday left four people injured, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Tyler D. Carlson, 21, was driving south on Saint Johns Boulevard in a 2005 Acura RSX just before 9 p.m. Friday when he tried to take the westbound onramp to state Highway 500 at a high rate of speed and crashed into concrete barrier, according to a WSP bulletin and WSP Trooper Will Finn. Drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, the WSP said.
A backseat passenger was found on the roadway when emergency responders arrived, but it’s unclear whether they were thrown from the car, Finn said.
Carlson was injured in the crash along with his three passengers: Taylor A. Soule, 18, of Ridgefield, Dominicc R. Edwards, 19, of Portland, and Erika D. Doving, 19, of Vancouver. Neither Edwards nor Doving were wearing seatbelts, the WSP reported.
All four were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. Two of the four were critically hurt, according to Finn.
Edwards remained in serious condition at PeaceHealth Southwest as of Saturday morning. Soule and Doving were both listed in satisfactory condition at the hospital Saturday.
Carlson was not listed in the hospital’s public patient directory; no additional information about him is available, said Randy Querin, hospital spokesman.
The ramp was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the scene. The roadway was reopened shortly after midnight.
