PORTLAND — Police say a garbage truck has hit a pedestrian in a downtown Portland crosswalk and severed one of the man’s legs.

Investigators said the truck driver turned right Monday morning at an intersection where right turns aren’t allowed.

The victim was identified as 57-year-old Scott Raymond Busch. The police said he’s been hospitalized and is expected to survive.

The driver was identified as 44-year-old Eric Arthur McChesney.

The police said in a statement that he is being cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to obey a traffic signal.
