A man barricaded himself inside his Battle Ground home Monday afternoon, prompting a multiagency police response that lasted more than four hours.

At 12:46 p.m., Battle Ground police got a call from a purported victim of domestic violence who had been in a house on Southeast 15th Avenue near the Battle Ground Village area. The suspect was still inside the house by himself, said city spokeswoman Bonnie Gilberti.

Officers went to the residence and tried to talk with the man, who had barricaded himself inside the house, Gilberti said. Southeast 15th Avenue was closed down.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies, Washougal police and the Gresham (Ore.) Police Department’s SWAT team all helped Battle Ground officers negotiate with the man. The suspect, identified as David Adams, 37, surrendered around 5 p.m.

He was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and second-degree assault.
