Prep roundup: Battle Ground beats Union for No. 2 seed to 4A district

Morgan Stradley scored on Haley Buck’s groundout for the game’s only run as the Battle Ground softball team beat Union 1-0 on Monday in the 4A Greater St. Helens League second-place tiebreaker.

Parker Boyd struck out nine, pitching a three-hitter for the Tigers.

As the No. 2 seed for the district tournament, Battle Ground gets a first-round bye and will play at 6 p.m. today.

Union, as the No. 3, opens against Skyview in a 4 p.m. game today at Battle Ground. Mountain View takes on Heritage, also at 4 p.m. today. Both games are loser out.

No. 1 Camas has a first-round bye and will play at 6 p.m. today against the lowest remaining seed from the 4 p.m. games.

Girls golf

Union’s Reilly Whitlock shot a 2-over-par 75 at Lewis River to lead after the first day of the 4A district tournament.

One shot behind is teammate Taylor Hartley with a 76, and Camas’ Hailey Oster was third with a 79.

The top eight individuals after today’s final round advance to state, May 27-28 at Indian Canyon in Spokane.
