Four people were arrested Friday in connection with a shoplifting-turned-robbery at a grocery store, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

A police bulletin said the incident began about 9:05 p.m. at a Safeway store at 3707 Main St. when one member of a group suspected of shoplifting brandished a handgun when confronted by a store employee.

The group left the store and drove away, but witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle, the bulletin said.

An officer spotted a vehicle matching the description a short time later and pulled it over on southbound Interstate 205 near Mill Plain Boulevard. Officers briefly closed the freeway as they took the four occupants of the vehicle into custody without further incident, the bulletin said.

The bulletin said one firearm was recovered from the group, and that investigators confirmed that at least some of the group were involved in the earlier incident, the bulletin said. No one was reported injured.
