Save the Date: Events pay tribute to veterans; comedy, music and more ahead

The 29th Annual Lough Legacy Veterans Parade pays tribute to veterans  and those currently serving in the military, as more than 100 units and 2,500 people march along Officers Row. Today’s event begins with a 10 a.m. ceremony featuring keynote speaker Col. Paul Fitzgerald, commander of the 142nd Fighter Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard. The parade begins at 11 a.m. with Pat Jollota as the grand marshal, along Officers Row, 1301 Officers Row, Vancouver. Admission is free. 360-992-1800 or www.fortvan.org

For nearly 40 years, the Westwinds Community Band has performed across Vancouver. At 3 p.m. today, the concert band will perform a Salute to Veterans, a selection of patriotic songs including “Americans We,” “Lest We Forget” and Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” at the Safe Harbor Nazarene Church, 8100 E. For its fall play, Camas High School Drama presents “The Musical Comedy of Murders of 1940,” a murder mystery performed by two different casts on different nights. The play is set at the mansion of Elsa Von Grossenknueten, who is hosting a backer’s audition for a new musical. As the guests arrive, they realize they’re the same creative team who made a play targeted by the “Stage Door Slasher.” And then the body of Elsa’s maid is discovered. The performance begins at 2 and 7 p.m. today at Camas High School, 26900 S.E. 15th St., Camas. The production runs at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 21, with 2 p.m. matinees today and Nov. 14. The fourth annual Clark College Fall Choral Festival will feature 20 middle- and high-school ensembles from Oregon and Washington. The choral groups will participate in clinics starting at 8 a.m. Nov. 13, performing in a noncompetitive format at Gaiser Hall at Clark College, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. The festival will be capped with showcase performances featuring the Clark College Women’s Choral Ensemble and the Concert Choir at 12:30 and 5 p.m. Admission is $5, free for ages 12 and younger. www.clark.edu/campus-life/arts-events/music/choral

The public is invited to join other local writers during National Novel Writing Month for Write In Motion, a writing tour of Vancouver. Participants are asked to bring a laptop or notebook, a novel and walking shoes. Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St., Vancouver, will be one stop on this daylong tour, with space to write at the library available from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 14. The Firstenburg Community Center, 700 N.E. 136th Ave., Vancouver, hosts Family Fun Day, a free day of swimming, activities and a movie night from noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 21. The climbing wall will be open to 12 climbers each session, and the pool will be open to 100 swimmers each hour. Bracelets for time slots will be handed out at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The movie “Inside Out,” rated PG, will be shown at 6 p.m., and complimentary popcorn will be offered.
