The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man killed while attempting to cross Highway 99 in Hazel Dell on Saturday evening as Paul K. Erickson, 41, of Vancouver.

The sheriff’s office said Erickson was trying to cross the roadway at around 6 p.m. when he was struck by a northbound Geo Prizm driven by Derrick Wimberly, 48, of Vancouver. Erickson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said driver impairment is not suspected, and it doesn’t expect to make any recommendations for criminal charges.

Erickson was crossing the highway in an unlit area with no traffic signals, intersections or crosswalks near Northeast 82nd Street, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office’s traffic unit is investigating the crash.
