Despite some good rains over the weekend, Vancouver is still running nearly one-third of an inch below average (1.30 inches as of 5 p.m. Monday). More rain is scheduled for tonight and Wednesday and may help to catch us up. Looking ahead, there may be some dry weather Thursday and Friday, but more rain and mountain snow this weekend.
Speaking of snow, the snowfall amounts over the weekend were not all that impressive on Mount Hood, with webcams Monday showing dry pavement and no roadside snow at Government Camp. The main batch of cold air and showers remained off the coast and slipped southward toward California. Tonight’s incoming storm had a winter storm watch out for the central and northern Washington Cascades, as well as the Olympics.
So we wait a bit longer for the snow to pile up on our local peaks. It is still early and all it takes are two or three good storms to kick the season off. Maybe by Thanksgiving. It sure felt chilly Monday, even with some sunshine. Nice and comfortable with a sweatshirt on. I did see a few die-hard locals wearing shorts Monday.
With the clearing skies Monday evening temperatures were dropping quickly and I would expect most areas to be in the 30s early this morning. Of course fog may help keep temperatures up a bit in some locations.
