With no room for error, the Clark College volleyball team remained alive at the NWAC Championships with an upset of top-ranked Chemeketa on Friday at Tacoma.

The Penguins, who had lost three matches to Chemeketa during the season by a combined set score of 9-1, held off the Storm in the loser-out match 21-25, 25-23, 17-15.

Livia Strandberg had 12 kills, Janessa Mast had 11 kills and 13 digs, Kinsey Pease had 17 assists and Gauleighyan Eastman had 13 assists.

Clark still has an uphill battle at the tournament playing in the loser-out bracket. From this point forward, any team in this half of the bracket needs four wins Saturday to reach Sunday’s final.

The Penguins (22-15) start with Bellevue (23-15) at 10 a.m. Saturday. Win that and the Penguins would face Walla Walla at 11:45 a.m. Matches after that are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The championship is at 2 p.m. Sunday. (Click here for the complete bracket)
