Prep volleyball: Camas, Prairie clinch berths to state tournaments

Two Greater St. Helens League volleyball teams punched their tickets to state on Friday as the Camas Papermakers (4A) and Prairie Falcons (3A) both went 2-0 to reach their respective bi-district tournament semifinals.

4A bi-district — Camas opened with a 3-0 win over Rogers of Puyallup and then beat Kennedy Catholic 3-1 in a late quarterfinal match for a berth to state. Camas will play Puyallup in the bi-district semifinal Saturday morning.

Skyview lost 3-1 and Union lost 3-0 in their first matches and then had to face off in a loser-out match. The Storm knocked out their 4A GSHL rivals 3-0.

Skyview will play Kennedy in another loser out match Saturday morning. The Storm will need to win at least two matches Saturday for a state berth.

3A bi-district — Prairie clinched a berth to the 3A state tournament with a pair of victories.

Prairie opened with a 3-0 win over Auburn by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-9 and then clinched the spot in state with a 3-0 win over Spanaway Lake by scores of 25-13, 25-12, 25-18. The Falcons get Peninsula on Saturday in the semifinals.

1A state tournament — La Center fell in the first round at Yakima, losing to Eastside Prep in five sets 25-20, 17-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-9.

The Wildcats beat Connell in a loser-out match 25-13, 25-23, 25-15 with Ella Schoene leading the way with 25 kills, four blocks, and 11 digs. Billie Ross had 13 kills and 12 digs, and Grace Clinton 26 assists.

La Center now faces Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls in the seventh-place semifinal on Saturday.

Castle Rock prevailed in its first match, beating Lakeside in five 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11, but then lost to Annie Wright 3-0 in a late quarterfinal to fall into the fifth-place bracket where it will play Eastside Prep.

2B state tournament — Kalama lost both its matches on championship day. The Chinooks fell in the semifinal to Colfax 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 30-28, 25-18) and then lost the third-place match to Manson 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17).

La Conner beat Colfax 3-1 for the title. Scores were 25-12, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18.
