Clark County — Summer trapping caught 42 invasive gypsy moths in six counties earlier this year, including three in Clark County, according to the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

State workers placed 16,000 small traps across the state in an ongoing effort to detect and prevent the plant-eating pests from establishing a permanent population in Washington. The 42 moths caught this year included 26 in King County, by far the most of any county.

The three moths found in Clark County were an improvement from last year, when traps caught 16 of the moths near Yacolt. The state responded with an eradication effort that dropped insecticide over 220 acres in the area last spring.
