CAMAS — One week after a narrow loss to Castle Rock, the Columbia-White Salmon Bruins gave themselves plenty of breathing room.

Scoring four second-quarter touchdowns — three inside the final five minutes of the first half — the Bruins ran past Seton Catholic for a 42-6 Trico League football triumph at Doc Harris Stadium.

Ulices Isordia ran for 268 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Columbia to its first league win of the season.

“Just running behind a good line,” Isordia said. “When we all work together, it works out well.”

Four other Bruins scored touchdowns, and White Salmon (5-3, 1-3 Trico) out gained Seton Catholic 493-173 in total offense.

Bruins coach John Hallead said it was nice to get Isordia going again after the senior was limited by La Center, Kalama and Castle Rock in the previous three weeks. Hallead was also glad his team took advantage of good field position to score three times late in the first half.

“That’s been our battle all season, is scoring when we have good field position, really punching it in,” Hallead said.

Seton Catholic’s points came on a fourth quarter pass from Jonathon Stell to Tristan Ryan. The Cougars (1-6, 0-4 Trico) drove to the Bruin 8 at the start of the third quarter but a pass interception by White Salmon’s Sam Rowlen ended that scoring chance.

Hallead praised the effort from a young Seton Catholic team.

“Those (Seton Catholic) kids, they’ve got a lot of heart. They play with great intensity,” Hallead said.
