SNOHOMISH, Wash. (AP) — Several school districts in Washington are exploring anti-discrimination policies that would protect transgender students.
The Everett Herald reports that the Snohomish School Board is expected to decide Wednesday on a policy that addresses issues like access to restrooms and locker rooms, sports participation, dress codes and official records.
The move would add Snohomish to a list of districts that have adopted such policies. Others are putting the finishing touches on proposed regulations.
The Snohomish policy would let students use restrooms that correspond with the gender they identify with, while locker room access will be assessed on an individual basis. Assistant Superintendent Scott Peacock says the goal is to be as inclusive as possible while ensuring student safety.
