Letter: Large field split results

It’s funny to me how much controversy there is over the write-in effort to elect Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, for Clark County council chair.

In the primary, the Republican vote was split between three candidates, and yet Councilor David Madore still came in very close behind the Democrat and Democrat-lite on the ballot. It is quite obvious that Madore would have won if the Republican field had not been split.

Because of that mistake, Republican voters were to be left with no candidate on the general election ballot. So, the Clark County Republican Party did what they should, they looked out for the Republican voters and gave them another option: A write-in choice for the hardest-working Republican in Clark County.

How does giving the voters a choice translate to ignoring the voters? Simply, it doesn’t.

Yes, the Democrats, the RINOs and The Columbian are upset. Why? Because Pike has a great shot of winning. I’d be concerned for this effort if they were not upset.
