The Prep Proletariat is back making predictions for the 2015 high school season.
Last season, The Columbian’s designated high school football prognosticator picked winners at an 83 percent accuracy rate. So how did he explain a Week 1 performance that was sub-par.
He went 11-5 in Week 1, a percentage of .688.
“Well, it was Week 1,” The Prep Proletariat said. “There is a lot of uncertainty in Week 1. You have local teams playing teams from out of the area. And even the coaches aren’t completely sure what kinds of teams they have until they get into a game. A lot of questions are answered in these early weeks of the season. That’s why they have non-league games — to answer questions.”
So early-season games are the hardest to predict?
“Absolutely,” The Prep Proletariat said. “Look at the Score Czar. He doesn’t make predictions until Week 4. He says his computer doesn’t have enough data to make picks that early. Last year, my percentage of correct picks was 76 percent in the first three weeks of the season. From Week 4 on, it was 87 percent.”
Even with a sub-par percentage, there were some pretty spot-on picks. For example:
