RIDGEFIELD — Volunteers are needed Saturday to prepare the hunting blinds at River S unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

The Washington Waterfowl Association will organize the event, beginning at 8 a.m. at the hunter check station. Blinds will be opened and brush added at those which need it.

Workers are encouraged to bring waders, gloves, a bucket, a shovel and pruning shears.

“This is a great opportunity to see the refuge in the daylight and familiarize yourself with the blinds,’’ said Doug Hargin of the Lower Columbia chapter of WWA.

The association has donated a new carbon-fiber pit blind.

A barbecue lunch will be provided.

Hunting season opens Oct. 17. Public hunting is allowed on the River S unit through an online reservation lottery system. For more information, go online to www.fws.gov/refuge/Ridgefield.
