SALEM, Ore. — A group of unions and other liberal groups says it has filed paperwork for a ballot measure that would increase the statewide minimum wage to $13.50 per hour and allow local governments to raise it even higher.
The Raise the Wage Coalition announced the filing on Monday. The group says it hopes the Legislature will raise the minimum wage next year but it will be ready to go directly to voters if lawmakers don’t act.
Meanwhile, a separate group that’s pushing a $15 statewide minimum wage began collecting signatures last week.
Ballot measure organizers must to collect just over 88,000 signatures from registered voters to place an initiative on the 2016 ballot.
