Why: The Spot Bar & Grill is for the 21-and-older crowd. The casual establishment offers an American bar and grill menu, which includes breakfast, all the beverages one would expect from a bar, and nonalcoholic drinks. The Spot regularly features live music and karaoke, and it offers darts and billiards.

What I tried: I had the jalapeño-bacon burger, and my dining companion tried the chicken-bacon wrap. A generous amount of golden-brown, extra-crisp fries accompanied each.

Pepperjack cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, Thousand Island dressing, a fresh bun and a lot of pickled jalapeño slices complement the beef patty on the jalapeño-bacon burger. The result was fiery hot, so I removed some of the jalapeños to reduce their influence, and I found the burger very tasty and satisfying.

My dining companion said that the sensibly stuffed wrap was a pleasant choice. Within the flour tortilla, crispy chicken tossed in ranch dressing, bacon, lettuce and tomato were combined in good balance and made an appetizing combination.

Dining Out Review: The Spot Bar & Grill

Hours: 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Monday.

Where: 7225 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver.

More information: 360-256-1110. The Spot Bar & Grill’s Facebook page includes information about upcoming events.

Health score: The Spot Bar & Grill received a score of 10 on July 1. Zero is a perfect score, and Clark County Public Health closes restaurants with a score of 100 or higher. For information, call 360-397-8428.

Atmosphere: After your ID is checked at the door, it is a straight path through the center of the rectangular building, where you may either choose bar seating on the right, billiard-side seating on the left, or proceed to a lower, dimly lit room where the stage and darts are located. Several TVs also vie for attention. Below the wood-beamed ceiling, walls are paneled with wood, and the floor is surfaced with wood planks. On one wall, large windows allow ample amounts of natural light in during the day.

Menu highlights beyond what I tried: The meat lovers omelette is filled with ham, turkey, bacon, sausage, onions, bell peppers, tomato and cheese and is served with hash browns and toast. The Spot burger is made with a beef patty, ham, bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion. You may also substitute a chicken breast (add $1.25) for the beef patty. If you like onion rings, there is a classic Western burger, which includes onion rings on the burger and on the side. Fried ravioli (one of my personal favorite methods of preparing ravioli) is among the appetizer choices. The citrus chicken salad, made with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and orange slices with a homemade citrus dressing, sounded delicious.

Other observations: The service was friendly but a bit slow on the moderately busy evening of my visit. The atmosphere is similar to other long-established bars that have not been updated. The food is on par with more modern bars and grills that offer similar menu selections. There are a few outdoor tables.

Cost: Breakfast selections range from $3 to $11. Appetizers range from $4.25 to $6.25. Burgers are $6.50 to $9.75. Basket meals cost $5.25 to $9.75. Sandwiches are $5 to $10. Wraps cost $6.75 and $7.75. Burgers (except for the Western burger), baskets, sandwiches and wraps are all served with fries. Salads are $9.75. Grilled chicken tacos are $5.25 and 75-cent beef tacos are available on Tuesdays from noon until supplies run out.
