Vancouver – The Columbia Land Trust is working with the Washington Department of Natural Resources to conserve 2,400 acres of river canyon and mixed-conifer forest along the Klickitat River in Klickitat County.

DNR purchased the land from Hancock Timber Resources Group with funds from the land Trust and the federal Forest Legacy Program though the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The Land Trust is working with DNR to manage the property under a jointly written management plan that includes forest and low-impact recreation, according to a news release.

The land is adjacent to DNR’s existing 2,335-acre Klickitat Canyon Natural Resources Conservation Area. The newly purchased property will be managed as a community forest, meaning it will be run by a plan developed in consultation with a local advisory committee.
