KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — A Klamath County commissioner has defended his proposal to place an “In God we trust” sign in the commission’s meeting room.
Commissioner Tom Mallams acknowledged that Wednesday that he didn’t give the other two councilors much time to consider the sign, but says he wasn’t trying to sneak the issue in. He says he wanted the board to consider the sign because of concerns about the political direction of state and federal lawmakers.
The Herald & News reports that commissioners voted 2-1 Tuesday to approve the sign.
Board chairwoman Kelley Minty Morris voted against the sign because she says commissioners didn’t have time to consult the county attorney. She says Mallams’ move wasn’t courteous to the rest of the board or transparent to the public.
