Letter: Republican principles in decline

The Republican Party, the Party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, and Roosevelt, passed away of self-consumption. The Party is survived by Evangelicals, The Tea Party, ‘K’ Street Conservatives, Balanced Citizens, and Trump supporters.

The much-loved Republican Party was born on July 6, 1856, in Jackson, Mich. It was founded by abolitionists and modernists, devoted to freedom for all. Their slogan was “free labor, free land, and free men.” Free labor meaning no slaves. Free land meaning no private plantations taking over all the best properties with slave labor. Free men meaning equal rights for all men.

The shift from Republicanism to uncompromising Conservatism has been a relatively recent one. Many believe Ronald Reagan was the start of the decline in core Republican principles.

The Republicans were preceded in death by The Whigs. Survivors include all that remain after their self-fulfilling prophecies.

The American people wish to thank the deceased Republican Party for its contributions to the art of compromise, freedom from slavery, and the environmentally protected National Park Service.

The Grand Old Party will be missed.

Services will be held in November of 2016.
