A man reportedly grabbed a woman and attempted to put his hand over her mouth early Tuesday morning in downtown Vancouver, police said. The woman was able to break free and call 911.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said the victim was walking north on C Street at 17th Street when, around 3:50 a.m., a man in dark clothing approached rapidly and grabbed at her.

After escaping, she ran several blocks and called police.

Kapp said officers searched the area and brought out a police dog, but the man was not found. The woman was unhurt.
