Driving into La Center is going to get a little more patriotic during holidays, starting with Armed Forces Day on May 21.

For the holiday, members of American Legion Post 189 are going to display American flags across La Center Bridge. The flags will be displayed from opposite sides of each light post across the east side of the bridge.

Members of the post mounted brackets on the light posts with help from city officials.

The idea for the project came from Ken Viles, a Korean War veteran and longtime La Center resident, according to a release from the legion.

After Armed Forces Day, members of the American Legion will continue to display flags on the bridge during other major holidays.
