A Burien man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a short high-speed pursuit in downtown Vancouver Thursday night.

A police officer witnessed a vehicle drive by him traveling at a high rate of speed near the intersection of West 13th Street and Columbia Street at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Vancouver Police Department Spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

The officer ran the plate and saw that the vehicle was reported as stolen and attempted to make a traffic stop, Kapp said.

The vehicle did not stop, traveling south onto Esther, failing to stop at stop signs as it turned west onto Evergreen, Kapp said.

The officer eventually ended his pursuit but located the vehicle about an hour later on Grant Street south of West Eighth Street, Kapp said.

The vehicle had collided with a curb mid-block and the doors were open and no one was in the car, Kapp said. Officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, she added.

A police dog was called to the scene and tracked the suspect to a ditch, where he had attempted to conceal himself under debris.

Officers arrested Edward R. Brown, 27, of Burien on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude, possession of a controlled substance and for possessing vehicle theft tools.
