Prep girls swimming: Columbia River strong at 2A district

Columbia River swimmers won nine events at the 2A district meet on Saturday at The Evergreen State College.

Freshman Sydney Boyle, who has already qualified for the state meet in five events, won two individual event and was on two winning relays.

Boyle won a duel with La Center freshman Hailey Grotte in the 100-yard breaststroke. Boyle touched the wall first in 1 minute, 10.56 seconds with Grotte second in 1:10.75.

Boyle also won the 200 individual medley. Teammates Kara Noftsker won the 200 free and 100 free; Makena Wilcox won the 50 free and 100 butterfly, and Madisyn Morin won the 500 free.

Noftsker, Boyle, Wilcox and Athena Dunn won the 200 medley relay in a meet record time of 1:53.97, beating the 23-year-old record of 1:55.67 set by Tumwater in 1993.

Boyle, Keleigh Kelly, Noftsker and Wilcox finished the meet with a win in the 400 free relay.

Aberdeen won the team title with 578.5 points with Columbia River second with 372.

3A DISTRICT — Mountain View’s Emily Hain won the 200 free (2:06.9) and 100 fly (1:04.73) for automatic state qualifiers.

Samantha Foster won the 100 breast in 1:12.56, and Sruthi Ravi was second in the 100 back with a state-qualifying time of 59.89.

Ravi, Foster, Hain and Karen Gong won the 200 medley relay with a state qualifying time of 1:56.12, and they also won the 400 free relay in 3:56.77.

4A DISTRICT — Greater St. Helens League swimmers went 1-2-3 in the 200 IM with Hanna Eha of Skyview winning in 2:14.20. Hallie Eha was second in 2:17.05, and Bailey Segall of Camas was third in 2:19.58.

Hanna Eha won the 100 breast in 1:08.88 with Union’s Avery Gunderson placing second with a state-qualifying time of 1:09.25.

Heritage’s Colleen Woods won the 100 fly in 58.55, and was third in the 50 free with a state-qualifying time of 24.84.

Camas qualified for state in the 200 medley relay as Abby Crowson, Siobhan Choong, Bailey Segall, Jessica Bertz were second with a state-qualifying time of 54.75.
