Prep highlights: Prairie baseball dominates Evergreen, 7-0

Isaac Watson and Cam Hern combined on a five-hit shutout as the Prairie baseball team improved to 2-0 in 3A Greater St. Helens League play with a 7-0 win Tuesday at Evergreen.

Watson pitched the first six innings and struck out eight with no walks. Hern closed the door by throwing a 1-2-3 seventh inning with two strikeouts.

Watson also was sharp at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI.

Prairie leadoff hitter Nolan Nunn had four of the Falcons hits as he went 4 for 5 with two doubles and scored four runs. Nate Merritt was 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI.

The Falcons (4-2 overall) have won three in a row.

Evergreen falls to 0-2 in league, 1-3 overall.

Stars of the day

  • Sydney Fugleberg, Mark Morris softball, went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in a 6-0 win over Evergreen.
  • Rebecca Townsend, Stevenson softball, went 3 for 4 with a double and five RBI in a 26-16 win over Corbett (Ore.) for the Bulldogs, who scored 18 runs in the fifth inning.
  • Jaila Ellis, Heritage softball, went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in a 10-3 win over Seton Catholic.
  • Easton Marshall, Kelso baseball, was 2 for 3 with three stolen bases in 4-1 win over Skyview.
  • Emily Hull and Aurora Wiley, Columbia River softball, each had a home run and a double and combined to go 7 for 8 in a 16-6 win over Mountain View.
  • Aiden Richmond, Kelso boys track and field, won the 100, 200, long jump and was on the winning 400 relay team in a dual meet against Heritage.
  • Carter Whisenhunt and Ethan Scott, Heritage baseball, combined on a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a 5-0 3A GSHL win over Mountain View.
  • Julia Ogbeama, Prairie girls track and field, won the 100, 300 hurdles, long jump and was on the winning 400-relay team in a dual meet against Battle Ground.
  • Jacob McManus, Columbia River boys track and field, won the 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters and anchored with winning 1,600 relay team in a meet against Ridgefield and Hockinson.
  • Eli Wall, Seton Catholic boys soccer, had four goals and two assists as the Cougars opened Trico League play with a 9-0 win over Toledo-Winlock.
