Letter: Herrera Beutler should take a stand

Jaime Herrera Beutler showed personal courage and conviction by publicly denouncing Donald Trump after lewd comments that the candidate made about women became public.

Herrera Beutler needs to now show the same courage and conviction by denouncing the recent decision by the Trump transition team to hire Steven Bannon as senior advisor. By hiring Bannon, a man who is linked to white nationalists and has supported anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim and anti-women views, Trump has demonstrated that he has no desire to quell the fears of minority groups or promote national healing in the wake of a divisive election. Herrera Beutler needs to take a stand and tell Trump that men like Bannon do not represent American values and have no place in the White House.

I encourage all constituents of Herrera Beutler to contact her local and Washington, D.C., offices and tell her to publicly denounce Steve Bannon.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
