Letter: Herrera Beutler makes right call

By Warren Shoemaker, CAMAS

It was a pleasure to read that Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, crossed the party line to vote against a bill that repeals a rule protecting the environment against mountain-top removal coal mining (Roll Call — Thomas Voting Reports, Feb. 5). She deserves credit for showing some courage. It’s vitally important that our Congress works in a mature, thoughtful and bipartisan way toward solutions, and avoids the extremism that threatens all progress.
