Hoops on the River at Esther Short Park may have been cancelled, but another outdoor 3 on 3 basketball tournament has stepped in to fill the summer void in Vancouver.

Hoops 360 3on3 Presented by Shoot 360 will take place Aug. 18-20 at Marshall Park (1069 E. McLoughlin Blvd.) in Vancouver.

Organizer Brad Butterworth, who was on the board for Hoops on the River, said he wanted to see the event continue.

“We couldn’t let this die in Clark County, so we put it under Hoops 360 and we’re keeping it going,” he said.

There will be divisions in all age groups (grades 3-8, high school, adult, adult co-ed) including military and public service divisions. There is also an Elite divisions offering a cash prize of $1,500. Last year there were close to 225 teams, and Butterworth said just as many are expected this year.

“Several dozen teams have already registered,” Butterworth said. “Teams from Olympia to Salem … it shows no sign of slowing down.”

Registration is $120 per team and deadline to register is Aug. 10. Each team is guaranteed three games.

Friday night activities include a kid’s basketball camp and block party with local food and live music.
