Letter: Oregon is to blame for bridge woes

By Nancy Patella, VANCOUVER
Published: March 25, 2017, 6:00am

Ken Williams is correct in his March 18 letter, “I-5 Bridge needs fixing.” He said the northbound afternoon traffic is awful but as soon as you cross the I-5 Bridge it improves. Well, that is true. The problem is not the bridge. The problem is on the Oregon side of the river, not on the Washington side. The traffic is terrible all the way along the I-5 corridor, from way down in Oregon. Then drive into Vancouver and it is fine.

The problems with the traffic in Vancouver heading south are again due to Oregon. It backs up our traffic trying to get onto the bridge. Oregon has to improve their freeway system, but don’t hold your breath. Oregonians have nothing but contempt for Washingtonians and I can tell you, as a former Oregonian, it will not happen.
