Ryan Josephson has been hired as the head boys basketball coach at Camas High School, Camas athletic director Rory Oster announced Friday.

Josephson takes over for Skyler Gillispie who stepped down last month to take a job as an assistant coach at Western Washington University.

Josephson, a 2002 Camas High School graduate, has served as lead assistant varsity coach and junior varsity coach at Camas for the past four seasons, helping lead the Papermakers to the regional round of the state tournament for the first time in 50 years during the 2014-15 season.

“This coaching opportunity represents a lifelong dream,” Josephson said. “I have deep roots in this community that extend back over 20 years. Not only do I live and teach in our town, but I was also a student-athlete for Camas High School. This basketball program has done so much to shape me into the man I am today. I consider it the highest honor to continue this tradition.”

Prior to his work on the Camas boys program, Josephson was an assistant for the Camas girls basketball team.

Josephson “has been a large part of the past four seasons with the program, which have been the most successful years in program history, and I believe he is ready to continue to make strides and improvements in the program,” Oster said. “Coach Josephson made a high impression on me through our discussions of his vision for the basketball program, and I am confident that his work ethic will greatly benefit him. He is a Papermaker through and through.”

Camas is coming off a 13-10 season that ended in a loss in the 4A bi-district tournament, just short of reaching state again.
