Letter: Killers desire infamy

The Las Vegas shooter had no criminal record and seemed a normal guy. How can the gun laws protect against that? So we need to ask what his motive was for shooting all those people.

I am writing my congressional representatives and asking that they sponsor a bill forbidding the printing/broadcasting of names and towns of residence of the shooters. News organizations can still cover every bloody aspect of the tragedy, and can still interview survivors and family members, but could not print or broadcast the shooters’ names or places of residence.

I understand that this is a First Amendment issue, but certainly the media would understand that the only thing they could not do is reveal shooters’ names and towns of residence, thus robbing them of the infamy they desire. I believe this could save a lot of lives.
