Prep highlights: Columbia River soccer closes in on league title

Shalece Easley scored a hat trick and Yaneisy Rodriguez assisted three of Columbia River’s five goals, as the Chieftains shut out Woodland 5-0 in Thursday’s 2A Greater St. Helens girls soccer match at Beaver Stadium in Woodland.

The win gives River, the defending 2A state champion, at least a share of the 2A GSHL title. It can win it outright with a victory Saturday against R.A. Long.

Goalkeepers Alex Schulz and Liz Canton combined for the shutout.

1A district golf — Seton Catholic’s Sean Ball shot an opening round 77 at Tumwater Valley Golf Course to lead the two-day event.

La Center’s Aaron Sundahl and Seton’s Nate Kuch were tied for third, both with 83s, and King’s Way Christian’s Cole Sherertz is fifth after an 84.

Stars of the day

• Bailey Crawford, Seton Catholic volleyball, had 23 kills, four blocks, eight digs and two aces in a 3-0 win over Stevenson.

• Anika Nicoll, Ridgefield volleyball, had 13 kills, seven digs and two aces in a 3-0 victory over Mark Morris.

• Olivia Beuselinck, Hockinson volleyball, had 17 kills, nine digs and five aces in the Hawks’ four-set victory over R.A. Long.

• Elisa Haug, Hudson’s Bay volleyball, posted 11 kills and 10 blocks in the Eagles’ victory over Evergreen.

• Bailey Crawford, King’s Way Christian volleyball, hammered a match-high 23 kills and had four blocks in the Knights’ sweep of Seton Catholic.
