Clark falls at Chemeketa as NWAC playoff hopes vanish

Season finale is Saturday at Umpqua

The Clark College men’s basketball team started strong against the Chemeketa Storm before losing the NWAC South region game 99-91 on Wednesday at Salem, Ore.

The loss took the Penguins (9-17, 5-10 NWAC South) out of postseason contention with one game remaining in the regular season.

Clark led 51-49 to start the second half, but an 8-0 run by Chemeketa (17-10, 8-7) helped the Storm pull away a bit.

The game remained close until the final minutes. Chemeketa led by as much as 10 points with 2:50 to play and iced the game from the free-throw line.

Courtney Anderson led the Penguins in scoring with 20 points to go with six assists and four rebounds.

Jesse Vogel came off the bench to score 19 points, and LaTrell Johnson had 18 points. Also in double figures were Tyler Fernstrom with 15 points and Kaden Ogels with 11.

Clark’s final game of the season is Saturday at Umpqua in Roseburg, Ore.

WOMEN: at Chemeketa 79, Clark 44 — The Penguins’ Sarah Teubner returned her hometown of Salem, Ore., and had a big game with 11 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots. The freshman guard came to Clark out of Sprague High.

Clark (1-25, 1-15) closes out the season at Umpqua on Saturday.
