Two people were shot Wednesday night in the Ellsworth Springs neighborhood of east Vancouver. One victim has a critical injury; the other appeared to be non-life-threatening, police said.

Police officers and ambulances were dispatched about 9:15 p.m. to the 10400 block of Southeast 10th Street for a report of a disturbance with weapons.

Callers to 911 reported hearing gunshots. Arriving officers located two individuals who had been shot, according to Vancouver police. One of the individuals had what police believe to be a life-threatening injury. Both victims were transported to area hospitals.

The early indication was the victims were not at the same place, but nearby, when they were discovered.

The shootings occurred in a residential neighborhood just west of Interstate 205, between Mill Plain Boulevard and Highway 14.

Some local streets were closed due to the police investigation.

The Vancouver Police Department Major Crime Unit is heading the investigation.
