Vancouver police responded to two robberies involving a handgun and a reported shooting in Vancouver Sunday afternoon.

Vancouver police Sgt. Sean Dumas said police were initially called to a report of someone brandishing a gun in the Bagley Downs neighborhood, at a retail complex at 5000 E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

Dumas said a group of young men approached a woman in the parking lot there around 6:20 p.m. and tried asking her for drugs. When that didn’t work out, they took her phone. Dumas said her boyfriend intervened as they assaulted her, and one of the assailants produced a handgun.

The suspects ran away, and the victims headed toward the police West Precinct building. Dumas said neither the man or woman were hurt badly.

Shortly after, at around 6:40 p.m., officers responded to another robbery call in the Bagley Downs neighborhood, this time at the Marketplace Apartments, 2900 General Anderson Ave.

Dumas said a man walking his dog nearby was attacked by several young men, who took his wallet and phone. He chased after them and into the apartment complex.

There, Dumas said, one of the assailants stopped, turned around and fired a single shot in the victim’s direction. Dumas said the man was also unhurt.

“Based on the proximity and description, we think it’s all related, but we don’t really have any solid descriptions,” Dumas said.

Dumas said at 9 p.m. officers were still conducting interviews.

At 7:30 p.m., police were also called to an assault with a weapon.

According to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, someone shot at victims in a vehicle near the Planet Fitness in the North Garrison Heights neighborhood.

The victims then drove to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where they called 911.

Additional information on the shooting was unavailable, but radio traffic indicated no one was injured.
