Vancouver firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire Tuesday morning. Someone was reported to be inside the home, but that turned out not to be the case.

Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the 2500 block of Grand Boulevard about 10:17 a.m.

Two dozen firefighters with the Vancouver Fire Department, Clark County Fire District 6 and the Camas-Washougal Fire Department initially responded to the scene.

The first crew arrived within three minutes, and during that time, dispatchers received multiple calls about the blaze, said Vancouver Fire Department Capt. Pete Adams. The crew found flames coming from the back of the home in a kitchen and living room, Adams said.

A neighbor told firefighters a woman may be inside the residence, and she could have trouble escaping, Adams said.

Firefighters conducted a sweep of the home and did not find anyone.

The fire was extinguished in about five minutes, Adams said. Low-heat flames had not yet caused major damage, but they produced heavy smoke, he said.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
