UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut Sun has waived veteran forward Tamika Whitmore.

Sun general manager Chris Sienko said Thursday that waiving Whitmore was “the best course” for both parties.

The 6-foot-2 Whitmore was acquired from the Indiana Fever in exchange for Katie Douglas on Feb. 19, 2008. She averaged 9.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 58 games for the Sun.

The 32-year-old Whitmore was hampered by a knee injury last year, missing 10 games in the middle of the season.

Whitmore, selected by New York in the third round of the 1999 draft out of Memphis, has averaged 9.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 350 career games with the Liberty, Los Angeles, Indiana and Connecticut.
