Firefighters put on pink for cancer awareness

HAZEL DELL — Why do pink and red go together in August? Because Clark County Fire District 6 firefighters are raising awareness of breast cancer.

The firefighters wore pink T-shirts as part of their uniform Friday. It comes after several firefighters’ wives were diagnosed with breast cancer this year, according to Dawn Johnson, the district’s public information officer.

The T-shirts were purchased by the firefighters, and are also available to the public with almost all of the proceeds going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The shirts cost $15, with $12 going to fight breast cancer. A local graphics company, Fired-Up Graphics, is producing the shirts and is selling them at http://fired-upgraphics.com/cancerT.html.

The shirts can be picked up at the Fire District 6 Hazel Dell station, 8800 NE Hazel Dell Ave. So far, firefighters have sold 60 T-shirts, but they hope to sell 500 by October, national breast cancer awareness month.

Fire District 6 serves Felida, Salmon Creek and Hazel Dell.
