Gramor Development has broken ground on Lacamas Crossing, 18-acre complex with 181,000 square feet of retail space. The $40 million shopping center, at Northeast 192nd Avenue and Southeast First Street in east Vancouver, will feature a 154,000-square-foot Costco, as well as an additional 27,000 square feet of retail space.

Businesses at Lacamas Crossing are expected to employ 500 people, with Costco hiring 350 full-time workers and the additional retail shops, to open in early 2011, creating another 150 jobs, Barry Cain, president of Gramor, said in a news release. Costco is scheduled to open in November.

Gramor, headquartered in Tualatin, Ore., has created more than a dozen retail centers in Vancouver over the past 25 years, including Mill Plain Town Center, Battle Ground Market Center and Center Square. Gramor and a group of locally based private investors are planning a $1.3 billion redevelopment of downtown Vancouver’s 32-acre former Boise Cascade site.
