The U.S. Department of Energy said Thursday it has granted an additional $10 million in funding to Washington state’s Weatherization Assistance Program.

The funding will extend a program that had ended June 30. At that time, more than 5,200 houses in the state had received weatherization upgrades under the program, funded by the national Recovery Act.

Across the country, more than 200,000 homes have been upgraded through the program, which employs construction workers and saves homeowners hundreds of dollars a year on energy bills.
